Hyperopia (Farsightedness)

Hyperopia affects an estimated 1 in 4 people. Hyperopia – also known as farsightedness – is very manageable with the use of modern treatments.

Farsightedness is the result of the focal point of incoming light being behind the retina as opposed to its surface. This is usually due to changing physical characteristics of the eye, similar to what causes myopia.

Hyperopia Symptoms
Hyperopia is referred to as farsightedness because its symptoms are exactly what its nickname suggests: the inability to properly focus on close objects.

People with hyperopia are able to clearly see things that are far away, but they are unable to focus on items close to them.

Hyperopia Treatments
Farsightedness is most typically treated with corrective lenses in the form of eyeglasses or contact lenses.
Laser corrective therapy is also another effective treatment option for hyperopia.
