Glaucoma Testing & Management

Glaucoma Often Develops Silently, Slowly Robbing You of Your Vision.

Early Detection & Treatment are Key

It is important to treat developing glaucoma early, as waiting too late may result in the development of “tunnel vision”.

Annual eye exams are recommended for all adults, and especially adults over the age of 60.

First, always remember that the goal of treatment isn’t necessarily to cure glaucoma so much as it is to prevent glaucoma from causing any further vision loss.

Vision loss from glaucoma is almost always irreversible, hence the importance of early detection and treatment.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION ABOUT GLAUCOMA

Causes of Glaucoma

There is no one clear cut cause of glaucoma, though it can be categorized by its symptoms. Damage to the optic nerve yields gradual and irreversible vision loss.

There are three main types of glaucoma:

  • Open Angle – The most common form. Open angle glaucoma is the result of clogged eye drainage canals.
  • Angle-Closure – Also called acute or narrow angle glaucoma. It is easily identified by a accelerated rise in eye pressure. Angle closure is much less common than other types of glaucoma.
  • Normal Tension – Also called low-tension or normal-pressure glaucoma. This type of glaucoma is a mystery in that it occurs despite nominal eye pressure.
